PG Parental Guidance Required - Parent Summit 2014

If the job of parenting was a movie, it would be a comedy, tragedy, drama and always an action adventure! Discover how to equip your kids, whether newborn or on their own, to thrive in the story God has prepared for them. Register now for our first Parent Summit and lead your kids to walk the path of Carmel’s Milestones. This one day conference is Saturday, September 13, 8:00am - 2:00pm. Childcare is provided for infants through 6th grade. There's a special track for 8th and 9th graders, too. Cost: $10 per adult, includes lunch and conference materials. New Discipleship Community Year Begins August 24

Promotion Sunday, August 24, is an important day at Carmel, and it only happens once per year! It is the day when the next generation, from birth through high school students, move up one grade level to a new Discipleship Community. If your family has not yet plugged into Sunday Disciplehip Community, this is a great time to do that! 

We encourage parents to plan to stop by classrooms on Promotion Sunday, or any Sunday in September to help their kids settle in to the new class and to meet the leaders in CarmelKidz Discipleship Communities. 

Although our adults do not "move up" to a new class, we do have some exciting changes for this age group as well! Pick up a CONNECT brochure at any Welcome Desk to help you find your place in a Sunday morning Discipleship Community. 

As we prepare for the upcoming year, the Generations Staff is still looking for additional Discipleship Community adult leaders who are willing to invest their time and talents for the next generation. If you are interested, please email these Generations Staff members to learn about ministry opportunities: 

 

Journey Through the Bible

Mark your calendars, plan to attend, and go ahead and register for the first semester of Journey Through the Bible in partnership with Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary! The fall semester will begin September 17 with a Bible Survey class will be taught by Dr. Timothy Laniak, Dean of the Charlotte campus and Old Testament scholar. This class will be offered on Wednesdays, 6:00 – 7:30pm from September 17 - December 3. There is no cost for Carmel members.  There will be a charge for non-members and anyone who takes the class for credit. Women's Ministry Fall Bible Studies 

The study of God's Word is transforming - add the context of community and you have the catalysts of spiritual growth. Growing as a follower of Christ begins with learning God's Word and expressing His truth through obedient living. Join with other women who are growing in Christ in one of Carmel's eight Fall Bible Studies. Click here for more information and to register. Registration ends August 24.

 

Surrendering the Secret

Surrendering the Secret, a post-abortive Bible Study will begin the fall session September 11 at 9:30am. This is an 8 week, closed group, confidential study that is designed to bring freedom from the guilt of abortion. The group will meet off site but close to the church. For more details click here

 

Elder Nominations

The Elder Body of Carmel oversees the worship, fellowship, witness, education, mission and ministry of the church, and shepherds the church body in all decision-making matters. Church members are asked to submit nominations for the Elder Body through September 28 here.  Additional information can be found on the ballots.

 

Wednesday Nights at Carmel

Mark your calendar for September 10! That’s when Carmel’s Family Supper and Wednesday night activities resume. We have discipleship activities designed for preschoolers, CarmelKidz (1st-6th graders), middle school students, and adults. Carmel is the Wednesday night place to be!

 

Business Meeting

Carmel’s quarterly business meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 27 at 6:15pm in the Worship Center. Join us as we hear from our Elders regarding nominations for the Nominating and Governance Committee and other reports from Carmel's leadership teams.

 

Connecting with Seniors

As we care for and minister to our Senior Adults, we are updating the list of those who are homebound (shut-ins, in nursing homes, rehab, unable to drive, etc). If you know of a Carmel Family member who is physically unable to join us in worship and would enjoy visits, email the contact info to Gina Meinders at  

  

Carmel Choir 

Rehearsals for the Fall semester of choir begin Wednesday, August 27 at 6:15pm in the Choir Room. Adults and high school students need only a love for singing and a passion for worship to be a part of choir. Choir members are expected to sing in two of the three morning services about twice a month. No audition required – just come to rehearsal! Contact: Shelley Griffiths, at  or 704.847.8575.

 

Carmel’s Fitness Facility Preregistration

Carmel’s Fitness Facility offers weight room and track access for members and the community on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:00am to 3:00pm. Fitness classes will be offered MWF hourly from 8:15am to 1:15pm beginning September 3. You can review the details and preregister for Fitness Facility use, or Fitness Classes here. 

 

Tai-Chi-Cise 

Tai Chi exercise is known for relieving stress, building strength, enhancing balance, and more. Join us for Tai-Chi-Cise, beginning September 8, at 7:00pm, in the Aerobics Room. Contact:  

 

Golf Tournament

Enjoy an afternoon of golf, BBQ dinner and support missions at Carmel on Saturday, August 30 at Stonebridge Golf Club, Mineral Springs. The tournament is open to men and women of all ages. You can make up your own team, or come as an individual and we will place you on a team. Cost: $90 per person. All proceeds will go to the Lois Bumpus Missions Fund. For details, click here

 

Chosen Run

Saturday, October 18, is the Chosen Run. The 10 mile race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway is designed to raise funds and awareness for adoptive families and orphans. Three Carmel families - the Amicks, the Fishers and the Neals - have created teams for the run. When you register for their team, your fee goes straight towards their adoption fund! If you are not a runner, then you can “sleepwalk” on their behalf. Click here to sign up.

Include Carmel in your summer plans

Position Available - Bus Drivers

Part-time bus drivers are needed for Carmel Christian School field trips and athletic events during the school year (September-May). CDL preferred, but training provided, if needed. Must have a good driving record. Please email Susan Moore at .
