Dr. Jay Hancock
Jay grew up in Atlanta and met his wife, Jody, while attending Auburn University. They have two daughters, Lindsey and Amy. Jay served as an Education Pastor in Miami before coming to Carmel in 1998 for a similar role. He became Carmel's Executive Pastor in 2007. It's Jay's job to take the vision of the Senior Pastor and to put it into action using the resources that God provides. Football season is a great time for the Hancock household. They all, but especially his daughters, follow the Carolina Panthers and Auburn Tigers.
Dr. Jeremy Amick
Contact: Jeremy and his wife, Angela, live in the midst of a high energy adventure with their four boys: Nathan, Caleb, Eli, and Thomas. Jeremy's ministry passion is to equip God's people for His ministry. Few things bring him more joy than to see someone joyfully serving Christ and others in the power of God's Spirit. At Carmel, Jeremy is responsible for encouraging an environment of disciple-making from the parking lot to the New Members class and through the Discipleship Communities. Fun times for Jeremy include outdoor activities, Carolina Panthers games, playing with the "Amick Boys" band, and Skittles.
Dr. Clay Barnes
Care and Counseling Senior Pastor
Clay has been in full time ministry for 36 years beginning with Young Life then as an associate pastor and solo pastor. For over 20 years, Clay has been the Pastor for Care and Counseling at Carmel. He has a passion for helping families and individuals work through some of the difficulties of life. He and Anne have two married daughters and one granddaughter. Clay enjoys kayaking and being on the water. Loading the kayak with camping gear for a couple nights in the wilderness is life-giving for Clay.
Dr. David Dixon
Care and Counseling Pastor
As the Director of the Counseling Center at Carmel, David oversees 9 professional counselors who provide approximately 150 hours of marriage, family, and individual counseling each week. David’s desire is to see those struggling with life issues touched by the One who can bring true healing to their souls, Jesus. David and Jennifer have two daughters Abby and Amelia. He is a "die hard" N.C. State fan and Jennifer loves the Tarheels. They have discovered one thing that can bring their relationship closer together - cheering for the teams playing Duke!
Rev. Rob Kelly
Missional Outreach Pastor
Preaching the Gospel, growing discipleship relationships and equipping leaders for ministry are Rob’s passions. As the Missional Outreach Pastor at Carmel, he oversees the missions and evangelism ministries. In addition to his work at Carmel, Rob helped found CharlotteONE, an outreach to 20-30 somethings in Charlotte. Rob and Ani have a daughter, Addison. His life is very different now from the days when he rode a bike across America the summer after his senior year in college to raise money and awareness for people with disabilities.
Director of Children’s Ministries
Sean has been working with kids since her college days and has been serving with the CarmelKidz ministry for over 15 years. She oversees the CarmelKidz Ministry for 1st - 6th graders including Sunday morning Discipleship Communities, Famjam and Kidjam on Wednesday nights, the First Step class, Children’s Camp and special events. Sean loves to see the "light bulb" come on for children as the truth of the Bible and God’s amazing love is revealed to them. Sean and Jae Lee have three sons who grew up at Carmel, David, Daniel and Samuel.
Rev. Lem LeRoy
Lem joined Carmel's team as the Associate Worship Pastor in 2002 and has served as Worship Pastor since 2009. He oversees the Worship Arts Ministry. While in college Lem felt God's call upon his life to serve Jesus and His church in the ministry of music and worship. He has a sincere passion to see people experience the presence of God in corporate worship gatherings and individually. Lem and Ellen have 2 daughters, Kate and Meredith. He enjoys playing tennis, time with his family and traveling.
Rev. Patrick McCrory
Patrick loves to see people own their faith with that 'Aha!' moment of understanding what it is to live an abundant life in Christ. He oversees the Generations Ministries leading our Preschool through Senior Adult ministries to align with our mission of making disciples of those Nearest, our Neighbors and the Nations. Patrick and his wife Shannon met at Baylor University and have been blessed with the adoption of three beautiful daughters, Evie, Ellie and Lillie. He has a passion for the fatherless and watching God set the lonely in families. It is a miracle - every time!
Rev. Joseph McMurry
Under Joseph's leadership the Student Ministry partners with parents to create a culture of students who are invested followers of Christ. That’s the purpose of Fuel Groups, Discipleship Communities, High School Leadership, summer camps, and mission projects. Joseph has served at Carmel since 2009. His desire is that students would take ownership of their faith so that when they graduate from high school, they choose follow of Jesus. Joseph and Lisa have 3 sons Walker, Fletcher and Cooper. The McMurrys are HUGE Carolina Panthers fans!
Director of Preschool and WEE School
Preschoolers love Miss Debbie and she loves them! Debbie’s ministry provides creative and meaningful programs for preschoolers and shows parents how to take on the role of training their children spiritually. When Debbie came to Carmel, over 25 years ago, she was a WEE School teacher, now she oversees the 800 preschoolers and 140 team members of the weekday preschool. Debbie also leads Carmel’s Preschool Ministry. She is married to John and has 2 adult daughters, Leslie and Lindsay.
J. Van Wade
Head of Carmel Christian School
Van is the educational leader of Carmel Christian School. All curriculum and spiritual matters fall under his direction. He has been in Christian education for over 25 years and is passionate about Kingdom education in the life of a Christ-follower. Deuteronomy 6:4-8 (the Shema) commands that we teach our children that the Lord is One God and do it in all aspects of life. Van enjoys getting the chance to educate parents on how to do this effectively. Van and Cathy have a son, Greyson, who attends Carmel Christian School.
Tim began ministry at Carmel as Church Administrator in 2008. Previously he worked at Bank of America for 18 years. Tim’s passions are first, the people of Murmansk, Russia and secondly to be the best possible steward of the resources God has given to Carmel. He is responsible for those things that support ministry at Carmel including finances, personnel, facilities, food services, media, and information administration. Tim and Gayle have two children, Caleb and Elizabeth. Tim enjoys driving fast cars or motorcycles!
Dr. Haohsin Huang
Chinese Ministry Pastor
Haohsin, and his wife Won-Chin, came to the US from Taiwan over 30 years ago. They have 2 grown sons, Matthew and Geoffrey. Haohsin began his ministry as a youth worker in his home church in NJ. In 2007, Haohsin experienced the call of God on his life to full-time ministry and attended Reformed Theological Seminary. His passion is to preach and teach the Word of God. His greatest joy is seeing a believer molded by God into a true disciple of Christ. Haohsin oversees all activities of the Chinese ministry for both Mandarin and English speaking groups. Haohsin loves to hold babies, the chubbier the better!
Rev. Walton Yuen
Chinese Ministry Associate Pastor
Walton leads the English-speaking ministries of the new church plant that is emerging out of the existing ethnic Chinese ministry at Carmel. His passion is to lead the new church - with its strong Asian flavoring - so that it will focus on missional activity that reaches out to the least, the last, and the lost of this city, regardless of race. Walton and Tina have two children, Joseph and Stephanie. After growing up in Hawaii, the first instrument Walton played was a ukelele. He loves Hawaiian food, but quickly adds, “ No, I don't know how to hula!”
