April 22 is going to be a big day!!! Carmel Students will be taking over the main worship services and our Adult Discipleship Communities. While our student worship band led by Christopher Kincaid will be leading worship in all three worship services and David Miller will be preaching, you have the opportunity to play a huge part by participating and teaching in our Adult DC’s.
Why are we doing this?
Student Takeover has a couple main purposes. 1. The adult community gets to see our students spiritual growth in Christ and be encouraged by your faith. 2. When you teach others, it challenges you to grow and own your faith even more.
What role can I play in Student Takeover?
There are 35 Adult DC’s. We need at least 2 students for each adult DC willing to share their testimony, then lead a 20 minute Bible study, and encourage small group discussion within the DC. You will participate fully in the adult DC from the greeting/social/food time, to the prayer requests, and even leading the discussion questions. This is for all 7-12 grade students. Check out 1 Timothy 4:7.
Who will I lead with?
It is up to you. If you would like to be paired with someone specific let us know. If you would like to be put in contact with another student to lead with that is great as well. When you sign up you can let us know.
Will there be a lesson provided to teach or can my friend and I write our own lesson?
YES! We will provide an outline of a lesson for you if you need it. However, we would highly encourage you to write a lesson that is important to you. If you choose to write a lesson you will need to sit down with a student ministry staff member to help you make sure you have everything that you need to build confidence. Examples: You could write one about the importance of taking part in missions. Something that you have learned in NAV from the book of John or Acts. You could write a lesson about the importance of pressing pause in the midst of a busy life and the strategies that you use to make sure you stay connected to Christ. How Christ comforted you through tragedy. You may have learned something that you want to share from camp last summer.
What if I have a leadership role on Sunday morning, can I still participate in both?
Yes. You can still participate. Yes, we still want and need you to fulfill your leadership role on Sunday morning. All of the Adult DC’s are at 9:30am or 11:00am. When you fill out the form you will let us know when and what leadership role you have so we know not to schedule you for leading an Adult DC when you need to be in your leadership role.
Will someone help train me on what to do?
Absolutely! We will be providing some training for you that you will be required to view or read before you step into that Adult DC. We want to help you be ready!
Can I still participate in my own DC small group time?
It depends. If you have a leadership role then you may have to forgo your own DC this one time in order to teach and then fulfill your leadership role. If you don’t have other responsibilities then you can teach an Adult DC and participate in your own DC as well.
