ROOT 66: Romans
The apostle Paul wrote Romans while on his 3rd missionary journey, around 57AD. Rome was considered the "center of the universe", and was a bustling city with incredible architecture and commerce. Paul had never been to Rome but wanted to go. He is writing to the church in Rome during a time when there is a lot of growth, but not a lot of doctrine. Nero had just come to power, and life was about to get extremely hard for the Christians in Rome.
Romans is almost three times longer than any of Paul's other letters, and it impact on the growth of the church is immeasurable.
Breakdown of Romans
1-3     The fall of humanity into sin
4-6     What did God do about it
6-11    We can now be reconciled to God (Jews and Gentiles)
Chapters 1-11 are about the Gospel, and Chapters 12-16 are about how to walk it out.
Pastor Tim testified to the fact that we are the "sent ones". He shared the Roman Road:
Romans 3:23     All have sinned
Romans 6:23     Wages=death BUT gift of God=eternal life
Romans 5:8       But God demonstrates his love through Christ who died for us.
Romans 10:9     If you confess with your mouth and believe you will be saved.
Romans 10:13   Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
How can they hear if they haven't heard preaching? Preaching (Greek) means to herald or proclaim.
Romans 10:15 - How are they reached unless they are sent? YOU ARE SENT! Each of us in Christ is sent through the Great Commission and Acts 1:8. You are the sent one.
1. God's plan is for each of us to share our story. When was the last time you shared your testimony using your words to tell your story? How did it go?
2. Where has God sent you?
3. What are you doing with where you are sent?
