Rodney L. Cooper, Ph.D.
Dr. Rodney Cooper earned his Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in Clinical/ Counseling Psychology at George Fox University/Western Seminary, his Th.M. degree in Pastoral Ministries from Dallas Theological Seminary and his B.A. degree in Psychology from Ohio State University.
In addition to teaching, Rod has a reputation nationally and internationally as a powerful and impactful communicator. He has spoken to a variety of audiences including stadium and arena events for Promise Keepers, “I Still Do” arena conferences for Dennis Rainey’s Family life, men’s groups, leadership conferences, marriage and family retreats, Bible conferences, and consults with various organizations.
Rod is a licensed psychologist in both Colorado and North Carolina and has served on one of the Licensing Examining panels for Psychologists. Rod has been a licensed psychologist for 26 years.
Rod has written numerous books, articles and published sermons. He is the author of Kids in Sports, co-authored with Bill Perkins; W e Stand Together; Double Bind: Escaping the Contradictory Demands of Manhood; Shoulder to Shoulder: The Journey from Isolation into Brotherhood; and Commentary on the Book of Mark in the Holman New Testament series.
Rod’s specialties are in the area of Men’s and Minority issues, Couples Counseling, dealing with the stages of marriage and transitioning through those stages as a couple. Pre-marital counseling, Anger Management and dealing with loss.
Rod’s focus in counseling is using the Redemptive Model of healing to embrace and reframe how one see’s God working even in their perceived failures and fears. Rod also uses a Cognitive-Behavioral approach but believes we must grow emotionally, spiritually and relationally as well.
John 10:10 is Rod’s framework biblically in that “the thief comes to steal kill and destroy, BUT I (Jesus) have come that you might have life and have it abundantly”.
