Jay Hancock
Interim Director of WEE School, Executive Pastor

Jay grew up in Atlanta and met his wife, Jody, while attending Auburn University. They have two daughters, Lindsey and Amy.  Jay served as an Education Pastor in Miami before coming to Carmel in 1998 for a similar role. He  became Carmel's Executive Pastor in 2007. It's Jay's job to take the vision of the Senior Pastor and to put it into action using the resources that God provides. Football season is a great time for the Hancock household. They all, but especially his daughters, follow the Carolina Panthers and Auburn Tigers.

 

Alexis Sholley
Assistant Director of WEE School
3 years old to TK (Main Level)

Born and raised in south Florida, Alexis is a Florida Gator through and through. She has taught in both preschool and elementary school classrooms and coached swimming for children of all ages. Her passion is helping children realize their fullest potential and her calling is to serve God’s kingdom by helping little ones become successful, lifelong learners and Christ followers. A Queen City resident since 2009, Alexis joined the WEE School family as a both a teacher and parent in 2010. She also serves as a Preschool Ministry Coordinator here at Carmel on Sunday mornings. Alexis takes every opportunity she can to get outdoors and enjoys spending time with family including her daughter who attends Carmel Christian School.  

 

Missy Stiokas
Assistant Director of WEE School Infant to 2 years old (Lower Level)

Missy has a passion for educating children and mentoring teachers which makes her an excellent fit for the roll of overseeing the lower level of WEE School (Babies-2's) at Carmel. Missy taught middle school and coached basketball in public schools in Georgia and Texas before she and her husband, Bob, moved to Charlotte in 2013 and she joined our staff as a WEE School teacher. The Stiokas family is expecting their first baby in December 2014. While Missy goes by the title of Assistant Director at WEE School, she will never relinquish her personal title of Georgia Bulldawg!

 

Cindi Baker
Preschool Ministry Assistant

Cindi has been in this position for 15 years now and a Carmel Church member since 1987. She assists Debbie in all things preschool, including the administrative tasks as well as preparing the classroom activities for Sunday and Wednesday classes. Cindi also coordinates the Baby classrooms on Sunday at 11:00 and the Wednesday night Grow program. Cindi has been married for 35 years with three adult children and two granddaughters. 

 
 
 

Michele Johnson
Preschool Ministry Receptionist/Office Assistant

Michele has served in the preschool department on Sundays/Wednesday, as a Wee School teacher and has been in her current role since Fall 2014. Her primary responsibilities include assisting Debbie in all things preschool and Wee School.

Michele's desire is to know Christ intimately and to share His love with preschoolers and their parents. In her spare time she enjoys reading, decorating and studying God's word. Her most important job is being mommy to her daughter, Sophia.

 

Jackie Lawing
WEE School Ministry Assistant

Jackie has been the Wee School Ministry Assistant for over 20 years.  Her primary responsibilities include handling financial issues such as tuition, managing the office and providing assistance to Wee School teachers and parents. Her job is even more rewarding now that her grandchildren have been attending. Jackie is married and has a son and a daughter, 3 grandchildren (with #4 on the way), and 2 dogs.

 

Peggy Turner
Preschool Ministry Associate

Peggy is the welcoming presence for parents and teachers weekdays at WEE School and for the Sunday morning Preschool Ministry. You will find Peggy caring for not only the preschoolers, but also their parents - especially moms.  She has two married children and 4 grandchildren and is blessed to have them all living nearby. Preschoolers think of lollipops when they see Peggy. At summer camp for twos, created through much planning for crafts, stories and snacks, all the kids really wanted was a "lollipop"...yes, Peggy gave them one!
