Go Local: What happens when you engage your neighbors?

Carmel's Local Outreach ministry partners and collaborates with organizations and churches throughout the city in order to care for the hidden and forgotten in our community.

We are FOR Empowerment - We desire to see the marginalized move from a cycle of dependence to a place of holistic shalom. Examples of ministry include Charlotte Rescue Mission and East Charlotte Partnerships and investment.

We are FOR Mercy (Care) - We desire to love and serve the vulnerable in order to address unmet needs, Examples include advocating and caring for preborn, low income older adults and those with special needs.

We are FOR Collaborations - We collaborate with organizations in the community that work to enhance the care and support of the vulnerable and marginalized in our community. Examples include Beds for Kids and Joni & Friends.

pRESENT AGE MINISTRIES- AUGUST 13 & 20

Help with demolition/construction/deep cleaning of the office to help Present Age prepare for their  programming staff to be able to move into Charlotte soon! Some examples of next steps are getting the floors and walls ready for the contractors to come in and put the professional touch and get the last things done for us.

Aug. 13 - Drop in for some demolition and remodeling! Help finish removing the carpet and linoleum tile flooring. Or if you aren't that extreme, help replace electrical outlet plates and clean light fixtures!

Aug. 20 - Drop in for a few hours to do some deep cleaning! Help finish taking trash and remove building materials outside, and finish with some sweeping and vacuuming!

charlotte rescue mission- laps for love event august 25

Laps for Love fundraiser was started by Grace and her friends when she was 10 years old and they are still hosting this fundraiser now at 17 years old. Volunteers will come to MAC (Mecklenburg Aquatics Center) and help tally the laps swimmers complete, pass out pizza, and a few will help with check in.

BUT, experience has shown that you're likely to get a quicker and more coordinated response if you start by emailing us. We can get you to the right person quickly, and even connect you with others from Carmel who are also serving!

What Opportunities are Available?

  • QCPRC: Charlotte's QC PRC is still getting up and running in their new location, but opportunities are coming to mentor, encourage and meet needs of at-risk families in Charlotte. Stay tuned for more details!

We have more opportunities so always feel free to just ask us about the needs, opportunities or where you can plug in! Email   for next steps.

Outreach Updates

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who served in Charlotte on October 9, 2021 for "We Serve 2021." What a joy it was to drive around Charlotte and see all ages coming together to love our neighbors. The work completed is seen and greatly appreciated by our Local Ministry Partners. It strengthened the relationship the church has with these partners and the prayers you prayed for our city and ministry partners was significant!!

We do events like WE SERVE to meet practical needs of our partners, but also to give you a chance to go in the community, learn about our ministry partners, and start to discern how you can take next steps to building new relationships with the hidden and forgotten in our city.

Neighbors Resources

"YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND. THIS IS THE GREAT AND FIRST COMMANDMENT. AND A SECOND IS LIKE IT: YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF." - JESUS

LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR:

To be a disciple of Jesus requires a personal commitment to both the Great Commandments and Great Commission, which call all Christians to love their neighbors and make disciples.

SERVE YOUR NEIGHBOR:

Just as Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve, Carmel is called to serve our neighbors.

HOW CAN I LOVE & SERVE MY NEIGHBORS?

There are a variety of practical ways for you to love and serve your neighbors. Below is a list that includes websites, resources, articles and books that can help equip you in your efforts to connect with your neighbors.

Outreach Training: At various times throughout the year, our team offers specialized training on serving in your community. We believe it is important to be prepared as we go, and to ensure we do not harm as we help.  To set up a presentation or training for your Small Group, email

Meet Your Neighbors: Explore ongoing mission opportunities with our Neighbor ministry partners in Charlotte. Ask questions and get connected to serve! To request the "Meet Your Neighbor" training for your small group, email   .
