King Jesus and the Queen City

Pastor Alex’s clear message this morning was that the affections of your heart touch every part of your life. Jesus says it this way in Matthew 6:19-24, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Earthly treasures can be so alluring, and they often take our eyes off of our main focus. Jesus spoke more about money than He did about heaven and hell combined because He knew that money was so tied to our heart’s affections.

The end of the passage speaks about good eyes and bad eyes. This analogy is linked to a good eye representing a generous person and a bad eye representing a stingy person. Jesus is likely referring to Proverbs 22:9 that states, “Whoever has a bountiful (good) eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor.” Unfortunately, the average American Christian only gives 2.3% of his income to the church. The eye speaks to the heart.

Look at your life as a blank check, and offer that check to God to spend it however He chooses to. Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven. Remember, the is a generation coming behind that will step into a time that we will not see…

Questions to discuss as a family today

1. Do you put your trust in your eternal home? Why or why not?

2. Where will you invest your generosity? What are you giving your life to?

3. How does your lifestyle reflect that you know that this world is your temporary home? What needs to change? 

Prayer

Father, thank you for reminding me that this world is not my home. I praise you for your grace. I want my hearts affections to reflect my love and dependence on you. I don’t want to treasure my treasures, but I need your help. Please forgive me for putting my faith and my pride in my earthly things. I give them all to you. Spend all of me, including my wealth, time, talent, family, marriage, job, and church, the way you want to. It’s all yours anyway. I want you to have my WHOLE heart.
