King Jesus and the Queen City

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” Jesus can make this statement because He is the King of Peace, who has complete authority. Colossians 1:20ends with “…making peace by the blood of His cross”.

1. Peace-Breaker – Too often we break the shalom in the body of Christ with gossip, slander, and lies. Remember, the body of Christ is not an organization; it is an organism.

2. Peace-Faker – Many times we value peace over the Truth. This is conflict avoidance that allows conflict to fester. This leads to disunity, pain, and disease in the body of Christ.

3. Peace-Maker – You can only be a peace maker after you have been born again. Through your relationship with Christ, you automatically have the ministry of reconciliation. You are an ambassador for God! Be proactive with peace in the body of Christ (Romans 12:9-18).

Shalom = “What’s up?” This is a friendly greeting as you walk down the hall.

Mah Shlomcha = “How is your peace?” This is the deeper question that requires relationship and openness.

Men and single moms, own the shalom in your home. Don’t be passive, but own your role as a priest. Remember, Christ can bring shalom to anything.

Questions to discuss as a family today

1. In what ways are you a Peace Breaker? Why?

2. Is there any conversation that you are avoiding? How will you proactively seek peace in that situation?

3. Who needs to hear “Mah Shlomcha” from you this week? When are you going to approach them with intentionality to help bring peace to their life?

Prayer

Praise God for the promise of Jesus that we can be called “sons and daughters of God”. Confess the labels that have marked you and stolen your joy and peace, and rest today in the Truth that the only label that matters is son or daughter of the King. Confess where you are a peace-breaker or a peace-faker, and commit to allow the Spirit to change your heart. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart this week when someone needs to hear, “Mah Shlomcha”, and then choose to be a peacemaker.
