Shabach means, “to praise or laud the greatness of God or His works.” In other words, we praise Him for who He is or what He has done. Remember, worship is all about Jesus. When we focus on Him, the “how” is secondary.

In Psalm 63, David is running from his son, Absalom. He cries out to God in a very personal way. In verses 1-2 David’s dependence on His relationship to God shows in that He earnestly seeks Him, his soul thirsts for Him, and his flesh faints for Him.

Louie Giglio says, “worship is our response to who God is and what He has done and is expressed in what we say and how we live.”

The center of the Bible is Psalm 117, and there is no coincidence in the message:

Praise the Lord, all nations!

Extol (Shabach) him, all peoples!

For great is his steadfast love toward us,

and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.

Praise the Lord!

1. When do your “lips praise” God because of His steadfast love? Is that a daily time for you? Weekly? When you need something? In fear? When things are going well?

2. Schedule a weekly fast from lunch each Friday for the next four weeks. Take that time to pray for a move in our city as 75 churches start the For Charlotte sermon series. Pray that the Holy Spirit would do a fresh work in our city. Pray for unity in among the churches and believers in our city. Pray against the schemes of the enemy to divide us. Pray for pastors to have the courage and strength to preach the Word. Pray for a renewed hope. Pray that God moves mightily. Pray with expectation…
