King Jesus in the Queen City
Today’s passage was, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” God wants our heart, our passion, and not just a mental acknowledgement. He says, “I want ALL of you.” In order for us to see this in context, here is a review of the Beatitudes to date…We understand that we have a poverty of spirit and mourn our sin, which leads to a humility of understanding our depravity and desperation. We can then hunger and thirst for Christ’s righteousness. This leads us to become merciful and see others in the same light that we see ourselves. We can now also see God differently through a pure heart.
Purity gives us a singular focus on God, and we are blessed when we are God’s and His alone. Pastor Alex defined “unadulterated” as something that is pure with nothing added or taken away. Pure in heart does not mean that we are sinless, but we sin less and we are grieved more when we sin.
Remember, we do not live for this life alone. We have hope because of what Jesus did for us on the cross. In the original language, “see God” literally means, “continually see God”! What a gift!
Questions to discuss as a family today
1. Do you have an unadulterated heart for God? What in this world takes your passion from having a pure heart?
2. What do you think it will be like when you see God face-to-face?
3. A mom is designed to be the heart of the home. How have you seen evidence of this in your life? Be sure to tell those loved ones around you what they mean to you.
Prayer
Take some time and read the Beatitudes and reflect on the progression of Jesus’ sermon to understand who you are in Christ. Thank Him for His words and His plan for redemption, and commit that you choose to be sanctified, to look more like Him, this week. Spend time confessing where you have adulterated your heart, and commit to have a pure heart. Worship Him for the fact that you will get to see Him continuously, face-to-face, one day! And finally, thank Him for the moms in your life, and pray blessing over them today.
