The Fruit of the Spirit
Pastor Alex concluded our study of the Holy Spirit today in Galatians 5. The Fruit of the Spirit measures the maturity of a person in Christ. Paul gives us four distinct verbs to point us to a lifestyle in the Spirit. Those verbs are: walk, led, live, keep in step. Remember, the Holy Spirit and His leading with always align with the Truth of Scripture. He cannot contradict Himself! To “keep in step” is a military term that means, “stay together and get in line.”
Our fruit-bearing is not performance-based. It is our Union with Christ! Since we are in Christ, we are filled freshly by His Spirit. Our job is to abide. When we abide, we love well. 1 Corinthians 14:1 challenges us to pursue love, then earnestly desire the gifts. John 15 shows us two beautiful truths:
1. The Fruit of the Spirit in your life makes much of God
2. When the world watches, people notice we are sons and daughters of the King
Men, you are challenged to Lead, Love, and Serve. When you abide in Christ, leading, loving, and serving  is a natural overflow!
To Discuss Today
1. Discuss a time that you were prompted by the Holy Spirit to do something.
2. Discuss your union in Christ. How does this encourage you to abide?
3. Does fruit in your life make much of God? How?
