MILESTONE SUNDAY

Today’s message was all about the Nearest part of our strategy as Pastor Alex reminded us the importance of being intentional to “Go Home First”. We were challenged to remember that our primary responsibility is to our spouse and our children. Carmel wants to equip you to be the primary disciple-maker in your home.

A Milestone is an event, preceded by a period of intentional instruction from parents (essentials), which celebrates a particular spiritual development point in a child’s life.

Carmel’s Milestones:

M1 – Parent/Child Dedication

M2 – Salvation

M3 – Preparing for Adolescence

M4 – Purity for Life

M5 – Rite of Passage

M6 – High School Graduation

Deut 6:20 shows us that our children WILL ask us about our faith, and we must be ready to tell them. We must be spiritually natural and naturally spiritual. Ephesians 3:20 speaks to all generations, and reminds us that we have been given a gift of legacy that we must pass to the next generation.

What was common “then” must be calculated now. We can see our culture change throughout history from one of community and an environment conducive to passing on legacy to one that is isolating and disconnected. We must be intentional if we hope to leave a legacy of faith in this fragmented culture. Here are 4 primary ways that Carmel will pour into you as parents:

1. Worship on Sundays

2. Discipleship Communities

3. Life in Christ Conference

4. Parent Summit

This strategy is for ALL of us. Whatever your life-stage, you have an opportunity to invest into the generations coming behind you. All that matters is the glory of Christ’s name. Invest into a generation that will join the chorus! Make sure you have no regrets at the end of your life. God is not looking for perfection. He is looking for faithfulness.

Questions to discuss as a family today

1. Where are your family members on the path of Milestones?

2. How can you be more intentional with your family?

3. As a parent, do you own your role as primary disciple-maker? How?

4. If you are not a parent with kids in your home, how are you partnering intentionally with parents to raise up the next generation to live an abundant Life in Christ?

Prayer

Praise God for the gift of passing on a legacy. Ask Him for wisdom as you strive to pass your faith on to the generation that is coming behind you. Confess where you have a lack of confidence or where you have been lazy in your journey, and commit to “lay down” with no regrets. Thank God that He uses you in spite of you! Thank Him for the gift of your family, and commit to Go Home First.
