Orphan Sunday 2014
Today we had the privilege of joining with thousands of churches from around the world who are participating in Orphan Sunday. This is a day where we, as a Carmel family, can reflect on and celebrate all that the Lord has used us to do for the sake of the fatherless. Pastor Alex began by sharing:
1. God loves all people
2. God has a special affection for the fatherless
3. God commands that we do something for the fatherless
4. God demonstrates His plan throughout the Scriptures (Moses, Esther, and Jesus)
Eight families at Carmel have brought home children this year.
Carmel’s adoption fund has given away $25,000. It currently has $82,000 in it.
We had the privilege of hearing from Audrey Harrison, and Christ and Allison Miller as they told their adoption story. Adoption is messy, but it is a beautiful and tangible example of the Gospel!
We also talked about sponsoring a child through Compassion International. The Compassion trailer is open until 8pm Sunday night and from 9am-7pm Monday. Do not miss this opportunity!
Questions to discuss as a family today
1. How did Audrey’s choices impact her? Joshua? the Millers?
2. Will you sponsor a child? Why or why not?
3. Did you pick up a “Love and Serve” catalog this morning? Spend some time reading through and praying about how to love and serve those in Charlotte over the next month.
Prayer
Father, thank you for loving me and rescuing me from sin and separation. Help me be a light for the gospel as I care for widows and orphans in their distress. Help me to hear in my heart where you want me to get involved, and I will commit to action on behalf of those who have no voice. Thank you for those that shared their story this morning. Please encourage them and give them peace.
