Key Verse:
Luke 15:20 says: “…But while he was a long way off his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.”
This morning Pastor Clay completed our three week series on the parable of the prodigal son by pointing out that the title of the parable more fittingly should be called the parable of the compassionate father. The theme for this morning was the extravagant love the Father has for us. As we learn to identify the younger rebellious son and the older judgmental son in all of us, we learned that discipleship means being conformed more and more into the image of the extravagantly loving father.
Questions to discuss as a family today
1. How do you view God today – as judging and condemning or as loving you beyond all sense of understanding?
2. Who do you need to love today or this week with an extravagant love?
3. How can you be less and less like one or both of the sons and more like the father?
Prayer
Pray and thank God for his overwhelming love for us. Thank God that there is nothing we can do to earn his love nor is there anything we can do that will cause God to not love us in that way. Ask Jesus what you need to be more and more like the father in this story and less like one of the sons. Ask the Father to remind you daily that you belong to him and are his beloved child.
