God gave the people a way out of their situation. Exodus begins with 70 Israelites planting in Egypt. They were fruitful and grew to 2+ Million people, which scared the Egyptians, so they enslaved them. Moses was born, then flees, and then leads the people. Chapter 5 shows Moses following God’s orders, but Pharaoh says, “no”, which makes the situation even worse for God’s chosen people. In Chapter 6:1-9, the Israelites were hard-hearted due to discouragement. God promised to 1. Bring them out 2. Free them and 3. Redeem them.

Chapter 12, the Passover, is the most important event in the Old Testament. It is to the Old Testament what the crucifixion and resurrection is to the New Testament. The blood from a first-born, spotless lamb was their redemption and their deliverance. Our deliverance came through the firstborn Jesus Christ.

A redeemer is “a cover”. We see this in the story of Ruth and Boaz. When Jesus put on flesh, He became the kinsman redeemer. The blood was His own.

Mark 10:45 says, “The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and become a RANSOM for many”. Our ransom is that our sin utterly enslaves us, and we can not be in the presence of a perfect God. Our redemption is a deliverance that comes about by forgiveness of sin.
