A Conversation about Spiritual Disciplines
D.L. Moody said, “The Bible was not given for our information, but for transformation.” Pastor Alex continued his series on spiritual disciplines this morning with a focus on the scriptures. Psalm 119:105 states, “Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”

Psalm 19
1-6 God (El=strong) We see God in His creation.
7-11 LORD (Yahweh=covenantal/personal) This connects intimacy between Yahweh and the Word.

How to make Psalm 19:7-11 “come to life”.
1. Hear it – Romans 10:17 Listen 12.5 minutes/day and hear the whole Bible in a year!
2. Read it – Pick a time and spot and focus on reading the Bible for 30 days.
3. Study it
4. Memorize it
5. Meditate on it
6. Live it – If you don’t live it, then you are just a clanging gong…

Steps to Reading the Bible
1. Acknowledge who wrote it – 2 Timothy 3:16
2. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you
3. Pray for your eyes to be opened – Psalm 119:18. This is a posture of humility.
4. Ask the Holy Spirit to renew your mind – Romans 12:2
5. Ask Him to equip you for the day!

Challenge: Read a Proverb a day and a Psalm a day for the next 30 days. Watch how the Word transforms your life!

To discuss today
1. Take some honey and put it on everyone’s tongue as you read Psalm 19:7-10. Discuss how the Bible is sweet like honey.

2. How often do you read God’s Word? How do you see it transform your life when you do read it? When is the best time of the day for you to read the Bible? Why?

3. Download a Bible audio app and use it while you are in the car, exercising, cooking, showering, etc… Remember, just a few minutes a day will transform your life!

Prayer
Father, thank you for your Word. I praise you for allowing me to have the Word accessible to me, and I want to hide it in my heart. Help me remember how much it power it has to transform my life. Remind me that it is a love letter from You. I want to live out your Word, but I know I can’t if I don’t know it. I commit to reading the Bible for ________________________. I pray that I that I learn in my head and heart will find its way to my hands and feet!
