Songs of Christmas
Gloria in Excelsis Deo – Glory to God in the Highest
Can you imagine what the shepherds felt as they looked up and saw an army of angels singing in the announcement of the Messiah? The shepherds were in the fields outside of Bethlehem. Bethlehem means, “House of Bread”. Jesus said, “I am the Bread of life”.
The angels sang, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” The angels have known Jesus from the beginning. They knew him as El Shaddai, Elohim, and all of the rest of the names that are used to describe Him. His arrival exclaims the glory of God. The peace that is proclaimed is the peace that comes on the inside. We can’t organize and achieve peace by our own orchestration. The peace that we long for is not found in the understanding. It is found in the TRUST of who gives that peace.
Questions to discuss as a family today
1. How do you experience the Prince of Peace in your life?
2. How has your life changed since being introduced to Jesus?
3. Make sure you give God glory and his due this Christmas by worshipping Him first.
Prayer
Sing “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” and contemplate the words to that song…
Hark the Herald, Angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled
Joyful all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With angelic hosts proclaim
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Hark the Herald, Angels sing
Glory to the newborn King.
Worship Him this day and this week.
