Milestone Sunday

This morning we took part in “Milestone Sunday” as we celebrated Parent/Child dedication and High School Graduation. Pastor Alex used this special day to remind us that we “pass on what we practice”. We all pass on a legacy, and there is a LOT at stake as we invest in the next generation. We must be filled with the truth and let it overflow to others in our lives. Psalm 78:1-7 is a critical passage of Scripture to help us understand how to pass down our faith.

Asaph, who wrote Psalm 78, was a cymbal banger during King David’s reign. Asaph, as a musician, passed down his faith to generation after generation. His “sons” are referenced with Jehoshaphat, Hezekiah, Josiah, and Ezra. The same message was sung throughout the generations. What a great example of passing down one’s faith.

Psalm 78:1-7 shows us “what to do”:

1. Tell about the deeds of the Lord
2. Tell about His might
3. Tell of His wonders that He has done.

Psalm 78:6 says to “know” or “yada” the commandments. To yada something is to know it intimately.

To discuss as a family today

1. Do you “yada” the deeds of the Lord enough to share them with those you love? What are they?

2. What do you pass on to those that are coming behind you?

Prayer

Father, help me pass on my faith. I thank you for choosing to use me in your story, and I want to leave a faith legacy that would honor you. Holy Spirit, please help me capture the “God moments” that come along each day, and impress on my heart those truths that I need to share with those I love. Your word and my relationship with You is a treasure that I want to share. Help me to hear from you and pass on your truth!
