King Jesus and the Queen City

This morning’s message walks us through The Transfiguration in Matthew 17:1-13. Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up on the mountain. While up there, He radiated His glory and was joined by Moses and Elijah. This moment forever shaped Peter, James, and John. They were in awe of Jesus and His glory. Peter begins to speak to Jesus and asks Him if they can set up tents and dwell there together. “He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.'” Jesus was there in the beginning. He was not among equals. Jesus was there when Moses and Elijah were created in their mother’s wombs. Jesus had just finished telling his disciples that it was time for Him to travel to Jerusalem to die. God is affirming Jesus’ plan to die. Moses spoke to this as well in Deutermony 18:15.

Why should we listen to Jesus?
1. He reveals the glory of God
2. Among two or three witnesses, a matter is confirmed
3. He has been blessed, affirmed, and validated by God
4. Jesus is dreadfully awe-ful – He is extremely full of awe.

Revelation 9:12-16:
Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. The hairs of his head were white like wool, as white as snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feel were lie burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength.

This is our wonderfully dreadfully awe-ful Jesus who loves us intimately…to the point of death on our behalf. Worship Him!

To discuss as a family today
1. What would you say to Jesus if you saw Him right now?

2. How do you prepare for Sunday worship?

3. When is a time that you listened to God with a sense of obedience?

Prayer
Father, you are so good. Thank you Jesus for your love and for humbling yourself to come to earth for a world in need of a Savior. Holy Spirit, help me understand a glimpse of the glory of Jesus, and I pray that it changes me. Too often I get caught up in my day-to-day, and I forget why I was created…to worship YOU! Jesus, if I saw you face-to-face right now, I would want you to know _______________________.
