Living in the Power of the Holy Spirit
The days of casual Christianity are gone. We need the Holy Spirit to be unleashed to love those around us because love is the most powerful apologetic. Our calling these days is to live out the gospel of the good news of Jesus Christ, in the name of the Father through the power of the spirit. This morning marks the start of a 10 week summer series focusing on the Holy Spirit, and today Pastor Alex addressed who is “The Holy Spirit”.
THE
1. The Holy Spirit is God.
Gen 1:2. We need to have a reverent fear of Him (Acts 5:1-11)
Since the Holy Spirit is God, I will worship Him.
2. The Holy Spirit is Eternal
Heb 9:13-14 There is nothing you encounter that He has not seen before.
His eternalness should give you a lot of confidence.
HOLY
1. To be set apart, otherness
Lev 11:44 Consecrate yourself. In His separateness, He lives in us thanks to Pentecost
1 Peter 1:16 Be Holy, as He is Holy
SPIRIT
1. He is Personal
John 14-16 JD Greer said, “The Holy Spirit in us is better than Jesus with us.”
2. He is Present
Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship. The Holy Spirit, along with the Father and the Son, show us what unity and community looks like.
Before Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was a hope to be waited for, but after, He was a gift to be received. If you are a Christian, then you are a spirit-filled believer.
To discuss today
1. How are you choosing to live “set apart” or “consecrated” in the world today?
2. Do you believe that the same power that rose Jesus from the dead is dwelling in you? How does your life show that you live in that Truth?
3. Are you able to participate in our Tuesday morning prayer times this summer? Remember, it is come-and-go each Tuesday morning from 7am-8am in the Worship Center. Will you join us?
Prayer
Holy Father, thank you for loving me so much to not only send your Son to die in my place, but for also gifting me with your Spirit to live in me. Holy Spirit, help me to know who You are, and what You want to do in me and through me. Help me to know how to embrace You and reverently fear You and Your power. Thank you for intimately knowing me and leading me to love well. I look forward to understanding who You are and how You work this summer. Soften my heart to understand You intimately.
