7 Words: Barak
Barak means “kneeling before God, blessing and adoring Him, and recognizing our position in relation to Him.” We bless God when we speak excellently about Him, including His attributes and His character. This reminds us of our position and we walk in a posture of humility.
Psalm 100 is a Psalm of thanksgiving in our worship to God.
How? (vs 1-2)
Make a joyful noise to the Lord; (that intense, split the ears war cry)
Serve the Lord with gladness; (worship with our work)
and come into His presence with singing. (singing songs with much joy)
Who? (v3)
Know that the LORD (Yahweh) He is God (Elohim). We are His sheep – God exalted is also God present with us. He is the Good Shepherd, and He knows us intimately. He sees us. He cares. He is worthy of our praise.
How Part 2 (v4)
Give thanks to Him, bless (Barak) His name! – We need to be transfixed and consumed by HIm. We bow while keeping our eyes fixed on the King.
1 Chronicles 29 – David says, “Bless the Lord” and they bowed their heads
Nehemiah 8 – Ezra “baraked” and the people bowed their heads
Philippians 2 – Every knee shall bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth…
Why? (v5)
For the Lord is good
His steadfast love endures forever – This is God’s “hesed” (covenantal) love for us.
and His faithfulness to all generations – He never stops
To Discuss Today:
1. Has someone ever done something extremely generous for you that was unexpected? How did you respond to them?
2. Knowing Jesus has paid the ultimate price for you, how do you respond to Him? What causes us to “forget” to be in a posture of humility?
3. Spend time “bending your knee” to the King and worshipping Him for who He is and for what He has done for you.
