We see throughout the Bible that the Lord keeps HIs promises…every single time! Here are just a few instances that relate to Jesus’ birth:

Isaiah 7:14 is fulfilled in Luke 1:30-31

Micah 5:2 is fulfilled in Luke 2:4-7

Luke 2:21-22 illuminates 2 important events:

  1. The purification of Mary
  2. The presentation of the baby Jesus to the Lord (see Lev 12:1-3)

Exodus 34:19 is fulfilled in Luke 2:23

Lev 12:6-8 is fulfilled in Luke 2:24

Luke 2:25-32 is the account of Simeon meeting Jesus. Simeon “was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel (the Messiah), and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.” Verse 28, “he took him up in his arms and blessed God…”

Simeon goes on to say, “Lord, now you are letting you servant depart in peace, according to your word.” “A light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.” This salvation gives light for revelation to the Gentiles, it brings glory for Israel, who already possessed God’s revelation and are the people through whom the Savior came.

Simeon means “God listens”. He was so committed to listen for the One that would bring salvation. He was a testimony to God’s faithfulness and trustworthiness.
