This morning our Missions Pastor, Jon Freeman, challenged us to live out the Great Commission. Matthew 28:18-20 begins, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Jesus is telling us that He has the right to challenge us. He commands us to “Go and make disciples of all nations.” This was His focused message after the resurrection, so it must matter greatly!
Every believer is commanded…not just the called, gifted, or prepared. We don’t get to pick and choose the commands that we have been given. They are all critical to the spread of the gospel.
Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that we “must believe” that 1) He exists and 2) He rewards. That reward is an eternal reward, and won’t fully be received until the end of the great story that is being written throughout history. We see in the faith chapter that MANY have gone before us and have been faithful “on their watch” (Hebrews 11:39). Now it is our turn. Will we be found faithful “on our watch”?
The Great Commission is Commanded
The Great Commission is Rewarded
1. What is God doing in your life during this season?
2. What is He calling you to do now? As an individual and as a family
3. Are you willing to leverage “Everything” for the sake of the gospel? What does that mean? Why does that matter?
