Key Verse: Genesis 50:24 And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will visit you and bring you up out of this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”
Pastor Alex shared about both Jacob and Joseph’s examples of dying well and having an intentional conversation about death with their families. He “de-creepified” death this morning! Have you considered your days? We are all born, we live, and we die. We will not live forever here, but we will spend eternity in one of two places. We must live NOW and make our lives about making the name of the LORD famous! Embrace the Gospel NOW and live in the freedom of knowing where you will spend eternity.
Questions to discuss as a family today
1. Have you ever thought about your funeral? What song would you want? What Scriptures read? Where would you be buried?
2. Does your life (right now) bring glory to God? Why? What more do you need to do?
3. Why should we not fear death? (remember the Gospel).
Prayer
Thank God for the gift of his Son, which gives us freedom from death. Commit to the Lord that you will live with intentionality, with focus, and with purpose. Commit that you will bless those around you, and speak Truth and Love over their lives.
We bless because God blessed. Our sons and daughters do wonder what we think of them, and there is great power in giving them blessing. Below are a few blessings that you can use with loved ones…
Ephesians 3:14-19 And now, may our great and eternal Father bless you. May He strengthen your inner being with power from the Holy Spirit. May Christ dwell in your heart through faith. May you be rooted and grounded in love so that you will comprehend with all the saints the breadth and length and height and depth of the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge. May you be filled up to all the fullness of God according to the riches of His glory. And may you exalt His glorious name forever and ever. Amen!
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 May the God of peace sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. And may you always trust the One who calls you and who has faithfully accomplished your redemption. Amen!
Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen!
Psalm 121:5-8 May the Lord watch over you. May He be a shade at your right hand so that the sun will not harm you by day or the moon by night. May the Lord keep you from all harm. May He watch over your life. May He watch over your coming and your going, both now and forever. Amen!
Hebrews 13:21-22 May the God of Peace who brought up from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord through the blood of the eternal covenant equip you with every good thing to do His will and work in you that which is pleasing in His sight through the power of Jesus Christ to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen!
Psalm 112 May you be a man/woman who fears the Lord; May you find great delight in the Lord’s commands. May your children be mighty in the land. Even to the next generation, may you and your children be blessed. May you find your wealth and your riches in God. May you endure in righteousness forever. Even in the darkness may the light dawn for you. May you be a gracious, compassionate and righteous man/woman. May you never be shaken. And may your name, (full name), be remembered by the Lord forever. Amen!
