How a Leader Builds People
Today our study of Nehemiah turned from the building of the wall to the people. Chapter 8 verse 1 says, “And all the people gathered as one man into the square before the Water Gate. And they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses that the LORD had commanded Israel.” Nehemiah understood the importance of teamwork and let everyone function in their role. As Ezra read God’s Word, the people were moved to tears. It had been 70 years since they had heard the reading of the Word in this way. Not only was the Scripture read, but it was taught in a way they could understand. Out of this came…
1. Strong Worship
2. Repentance
3. Joy
4. Generosity
5. Immediate Obedience
Questions to discuss as a family today
1. Who are the members of your team (family, work, friends) and what is their value? Do you open the Word together?
2. When is the last time you worshipped with a visceral response to God’s goodness? Share that testimony with your family or friends.
3. How do you life life with “open hands” as a result of your generosity?
4. Pastor Alex shared about the importance of the Word being elevated “over” us. What does it mean to live under the Word?
Prayer
Praise God for His Word, and thank Him for those that help bring you understanding to His Word. Worship Him for who He is, and commit to spending more time reading the Bible. Ask the Lord to show you where you need to repent. Ask His Spirit to prompt you in ways to be generous. Thank Him for His patience with you, as you grow in your understanding of discipleship.
