Today marks the official beginning of our 66-week series, called Root 66. Genesis is the book of beginnings and can be broken down into 2 parts representing four key events and four key people.

Chapters 1-11   4 Key Events: Creation, Fall, Flood, Nations

Chapters 12-50 4 Key People: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph

Genesis 1:1 states, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” God is the Creator. He is the One who makes something out of nothing. We see this throughout Scripture in passages like Psalm 33:6-8, John 1:1, Colossians 1, and Revelation 4:11. These truths color our worldview. Everyone has a worldview. It is how we make sense of life, and it takes faith.

One of the greatest objections to our belief in creation is evolution, and it is taught in our schools and in Hollywood. Willam Paley gave us a great illustration of intelligent design with the example of The Watchmaker analogy. Charles Darwin began as a student of Creationism, but changed his stance when he went to the Galapagos Islands and did his five years of research that culminated in “The Origin of Species”.

Carl Sagan made these 3 statements:

1. The cosmos is all that ever was, is, and will be.

2. A universe that is infinitely old has no need of a creator.

3. Evolution is a fact.

It takes more faith to be an evolutionist than it does a creationist. The problem with being an evolutionist is that you remove value from the Imago Dei. Creationists see God’s design in all creation. Psalm 19:1, “The heavens declare the glory of God”!
