Carmel Students Band

The Carmel Students Band leads worship regularly at Midweek. We desire for students, who are gifted in music and have an interest in serving, to plug in and develop their abilities while learning what it means to be a worship leader. If you are interested in serving and using your talent to lead worship take some time to read the Student Worship Team qualifications and expectations below:

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS OF STUDENT LEADERSHIP

  • A heart for students and their spiritual growth in Christ.
  • Committed to the mission, vision, strategy, and core values of Carmel and Student Ministry.
  • Seeks to grow in knowledge of the Bible and a personal relationship with God. 
  • Models the disciplines of the Christian life. 
  • Actively part of your Discipleship Community group.
  • Spiritual gifts and abilities related to the serving position.
  • Flexible | Available | Teachable 
  • Members of Student Leadership will be invested in during leadership training on Wednesdays during the school year from 6:00-6:15pm.

EXPECTATIONS OF CS BAND:

  • Attend weekly worship services at Carmel; 8:00, 9:30 or 11:00am.
  • Attend and actively participate in a Student Small Group.
  • Practice the music you are given before rehearsal.
  • Attend rehearsals as scheduled.
  • On Wednesdays you are scheduled to play; you are expected to attend, set up and run through at 4:30pm, participate in our Student Leadership training at 6:00pm and assist with tear down as needed.
  • Wear appropriate clothing including jeans/pants when you are on stage.
  • After the worship set, sit with all the students and be a part of the Student Worship service.
  • Conduct yourself in a manner that is worthy of your position. This includes your conduct in school, out of school, at home, and online.
  • Student Worship Team members can and will be dismissed from serving at the discretion of the Student Ministry team.

Minimum Craft Requirements

Vocals

  • Able to sing on pitch.
  • Able to control vocal elements in order to blend with the worship leader and other vocalists.
  • Ability to express personal creativity through voice.
  • Able to sing “contagiously” – in a way that fosters congregation participation.

Drums

  • Able to provide solid rhythmic foundation.
  • Ability to play with a click track (metronome) and hold tempo.
  • Able to comfortably play various beats in a variety of time signatures.
  • Should be comfortable learning parts by ear.
  • Able to control volume and dynamics while maintaining consistent tempo.
  • Ability to express personal creativity through drumming.
  • Able to play sensitively according to the volume needs of the room and song.

Bass

  • Provide bass content and rhythmic support.
  • Should have good working knowledge of the bass guitar neck.
  • Should be able to comfortably play music provided.
  • Be able to control dynamics while maintaining consistent tempo.
  • Ability to play with a click track (metronome) and hold tempo.
  • Must own their own instrument.
  • Ability to express personal creativity through bass.
  • Be willing to learn the Nashville Numbers system.

Acoustic Guitar/Rhythm Electric Guitar

  • Have a good knowledge of open chords and barre chords.
  • Should have good working knowledge of the guitar neck.
  • Be able to play different strumming patterns as called for by the given song.
  • Be able to transpose chords and use a capo.
  • Be able to control dynamics while maintaining consistent tempo.
  • Ability to play with a click track (metronome) and hold tempo.
  • Must own their own instrument with electronic pickup system.
  • Ability to express personal creativity through guitar.
  • Be willing to learn the Nashville Numbers system.

Lead Electric Guitar

  • Able to provide rhythmic support and appropriate tones as needed.
  • Able to play specific “lead lines” for songs as needed.
  • Should have good working knowledge of the guitar neck.
  • Must own their own guitar and equipment, and be able to reproduce tones consistent with the set list.
  • Have a good knowledge of open chords and barre chords.
  • Be able to play different strumming patterns as called for by the given song.
  • Be able to transpose chords in all keys and use a capo.
  • Be able to control dynamics while maintaining consistent tempo.
  • Ability to play with a click track (metronome) and hold tempo.
  • Be willing to learn the Nashville Numbers system.
  • Ability to express personal creativity through guitar.

Keys/Piano

  • Able to provide appropriate tone and key/piano support.
  • Should know chord inversions and be able to find different chord voicings.
  • Be willing to learn the Nashville Numbers system.
  • Ability to read chords preferred as we will not often have sheet music.
  • Be able to control dynamics while maintaining consistent tempo.
  • Ability to play with a click track (metronome) and hold tempo.
  • Ability to express personal creativity through keys/piano.
