Why Jesus? A Study of Mark
Leaders: Cheryl JohnsonTHURSDAY MORNINGS @ 9:30 – 11:15am
Have you ever been asked why you follow Jesus or why you are a Christian? If you were to sit down with a friend and share your testimony, would it include aspects of Jesus that ultimately drew you to Him? The Gospel of Mark is written in a way that helps us answer all of these questions. It is fast-paced and action-packed as it abruptly begins with “the beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ,” skipping over all the events leading up to His birth and His entire childhood. With Peter as his source, Mark writes to a Gentile audience in story after story showing the way Jesus served others throughout his three-year ministry. The final third of the book focuses on the last week of Jesus’ life and the way He ultimately served humanity by dying on a cross.
Through a verse-by-verse study of the Gospel of Mark, we will seek to answer the question “Why Jesus?” At the end of each lesson, we will collectively look for adjectives or phrases that describe Jesus in the various stories we read. The hope is that by the end of the study, each of us will have a toolbox full of examples to help us as we share the gospel with others.
